The Word of God :
“And many people spread their cloaks on the road, others cut green branches from the fields and those who went before and those who followed were shouting:
“Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessed is the coming Kingdom of our Father David!
Hosanna in the highest heaven! “Mk 11: 8-10
Texts of Cardinal Lavigerie and Mother Marie Salome:
“Jesus is faith, charity, freedom, light–all these good things that men seek so ardently but do not find because they seek them outside of Him.” Cardinal Charles Lavigerie
“I must remember that the Church sings: The cross is our only hope and there is no hope outside of this route.” Mother Marie Salomé
Personal prayer:
I prepare to pray with the text read at the beginning of Palm Sunday Mass.
I imagine Jesus riding a donkey.
Cloaks are spread on the ground and branches are waved to show him respect.
In my culture, by what action do we honor an important person?
I listen to the crowd singing:
“Hosanna!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessed is the coming Kingdom of our Father David!
Hosanna in the highest heaven! “
At every Eucharist we repeat these words in the Sanctus.
I ask the Lord for the grace
to renew my way of understanding and singing this hymn
during Holy Week.
