A baobab tree as a symbol

baobabsWhat links are there between a baobab tree and Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa in temporary vows?

The Young Professed sisters found themselves in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, to contribute to the next General Chapter to be held in 2017.

Why a baobab tree?

A baobab tree is what we want to be in and for our congregation, in and for the world and the Church.

The baobab is a strong tree, resilient.
Wise men gather under its shade.
Its fruits are edible.
It has medicinal properties.
Its branches are flexible.
It is a sacred tree; we cannot cut it down
and it burns slowly …

Who are these Young Professed sisters?

The Young Professed made their first commitment in the congregation after the novitiate. A period of six to nine years—a time of temporary vows allows them to be rooted in the vocation of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa through their apostolic commitments, studies, community life and prayer.

Thirty of them met with the General Council in July 2016.
