Cardinal Lavigerie and the mission in the International Union of the Sisters’ Superiors General
In preparation to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Lavigerie Family, Sister Carmen Sammut, Superior General of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa and President of the UISG (International Union of the Sisters’ Superiors General), talks to us about her particular work as president of the UISG.
“In our house, in the staircase we have a picture of Cardinal Lavigerie. When I’m going to the UISG, I always hear him speaking to me. I think, he is extremely happy that I go there. He reminds me of his great love for the Church, of his knowledge of Church history, of his desire to see Vatican become more intercultural, international, of his vision of the Church in Africa and of the Universal Church, his love for those who suffer.
When I was elected the president of the UISG in May 2013, I really felt that I was being called to walk in Cardinal’s footsteps.”
