There is an unusual agitation in the village of Kanie (50km from Lublin, in eastern Poland). They go here and there, looking for something, bringing something, talking, singing, taking photos… – But it is quite a pleasant chaos. It seems to be an unusual sight in this small town, especially that most of these people come from different continents, which is obvious at first glance.
But… what is it really all about? It looks like a big celebration. And so it was! Sister Ania Wójcik, Missionary Sister of Our Lady of Africa, was to make her perpetual vows that day. It was all for her. And for Him who called her. At 10 a.m. in the parish of Saints Peter and Paul the solemn Holy Mass began, celebrated by Bishop Adam Bab. The singing in different languages, as well as the prayer, accompanied by rhythmic sounds, the procession with gifts with the participation of children, the beauty of the outfits of the White Sisters – all this gave a solemn character. The whole Liturgy was carefully elaborated, and yet in this richness everything was so simple, modest. Thanks to this, what is most important was beautifully highlighted. Sr. Ania was also beautiful! Her smiling face indicated joy, God’s joy. And some peace, despite organisational stress. The sermon was preached by Fr Paweł. He reminded us of what it means to be a witness of Christ, “Christ-like”. Chastity, poverty, obedience – Sr. Ania vowed fidelity to these three virtues before the Lord God. Bishop Bab pointed out that a happy person looks like Sr Anna. And truly happy is the one who seeks happiness with God.
After the solemn Eucharist, photos, more singing in African rhythms and greetings, the guests went to celebrate together “Under the Nuts”. And literally, because although we were not sitting in the garden in the shade of walnut leaves, we found ourselves on Walnut Street in the wedding house of the aforementioned name.
A real wedding feast awaited us! As it is after the wedding, a special one is this, because with the most wonderful Bridegroom. Almost like in Cana. Although we were no longer in Cana, we went to another village. As we gathered behind tables laden with delightful delicacies, we were able to get to know each other better. Everyone introduced themselves and said a few words about themselves. And since there were a lot of us, I don’t know if anyone would be able to remember everyone. Well, probably only Sr. Ania herself would be able to mention all the names! A lot of chatting, some dancing and a ceremonial entrance with a dance step and African singing on the lips with a delicious cake shared by Sr Ania.
The good time of celebration slowly came to an end and the guests started to disperse. It was nice to drive towards Lublin, admiring the green meadows around, the golden fields of rapeseed, basking in the sunshine. Beautiful hilly terrain, one would like to take a walk there.
The whole day was beautiful. A beautiful Eucharist, a beautiful celebration, beautiful costumes, and the weather turned beautiful afterwards. But still the most beautiful that day had to be the heart of Sr Anna. Fully devoted to Jesus. Filled to the brim with Him.
“Jesus said to the servants: Fill the jars with water! And they filled them to the brim.” J 2, 7
May the Lord fill each day Sister, and guide you in His paths. Many Divine Graces for every time!
