On 2 February, the Diocese of Arua was filled with joy as we celebrated the Jubilee of Consecrated Life.
The celebration took place in the context of the Jubilee Year we are celebrating in the whole Church throughout the world under the theme “Pilgrims of Hope”. This special occasion brought together many religious from different congregations, as well as the lay faithful who pray in the Cathedral parish, underlining the living tapestry of faith that enriches our Diocese.
The main celebration was preceded by a day of reflection led by the Episcopal Vicar for Religious in the Diocese of Arua. He led us in a reflection on the meaning of the Jubilee and this year’s theme, its impact on our lives and the importance of reconciliation.
The highlight of the gathering was the Mass presided over by our Bishop, who led us in a beautiful liturgy full of hope and renewal. As we entered the cathedral, the flickering flames of our candles illuminated the significance of the day, symbolising our faith and commitment to our vocations.
In a moment of profound unity, we renewed our vows, reaffirming our commitment to serve God and our communities. This powerful ritual reminded us of our common purpose as consecrated persons committed to a life of prayer, service and love.
After Mass, we enjoyed a delicious meal and took part in recreational activities, including dancing and games. This time of fellowship was an opportunity for us to strengthen our bonds and to celebrate the unique journeys each of us takes in our religious life. Through laughter and shared experiences, we cultivated deeper connections and left inspired by one another’s commitment and passion.
We are happy to be actively involved in the activities of the Association of Religious in Uganda, especially our branch in Arua. One of us is the coordinator of the Adjumani zone, while another sister was recently elected to the diocesan coordination team. These roles not only highlight the talents and dedication within our groups, but also reflect our commitment to the wider mission of working with others to serve those in need.
United in our faith and in our mission, we look forward to continuing our journey together as pilgrims of hope, standing firm in our vocation and being a source of inspiration and support for those to whom we have been sent.
