On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the foundation of our two religious families, the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa and the Missionaries of Africa, a symposium was organized in Rome on April 4 at Urbaniana University on the theme: "Contribution of our two Institutes to the Universal Mission of the Church".

Bishop Michael Fitzgerald, Missionary of Africa, highlighting the main features of our charism, showed how our two families have contributed to the mission of the Universal Church. Our Superior General, Sr. Carmen Sammut, illustrated these same characteristics through the portrait of 7 of our sisters  "women apostles". Bishop Richard Baawobr, Missionary of Africa, based on his pastoral experience of Bible reading in Small Christian Communities, answered the question "why evangelize? “ Father Antoine de Padoue Pooda, professor of missiology at L'Urbaniana, showed us the heritage and spiritual fruitfulness of the "Lavigerie Family" in Africa.  Sr Léa Belemsaga, Superior General of the Sisters of the Annunciation of Bobo, concluded this rich symposium with "The Fiat of the African Woman": the history of the foundation and formation of 21 African women's congregations for mission.
