Josephine was born in 1869 in South Sudan.       She lived with her parents, 3 brothers and 4 sisters in Olgossa, a small village in Darfur, close to Mont Agilerei. The first suffering felt by Josephine was when those she called ” négriers” in reality members of Arab tribes who were slave traders, abducted her elder sister: “I still remember, she said in 1910, how Mama cried, and how we too cried. “ One day, between 1876 and 1877 she suffered the same fate as her sister; she was kidnapped and carried far away. “I was only thinking of my family; I called out to Papa and Mama, with anguish in my heart impossible to describe. But no-one was listening to me. “   Sold into slavery several times in the markets of El Obeid and Khartoum, she was treated brutally by her captors.…

“People do not need sad sisters because they are experiencing enough sadness but they need sisters who are loving, joyful and enthusiastic and this is what we are called to be. He further said that Jesus is not interested in sisters who look good and smart  but he is interested in sisters who bear fruits which are juicy and sweet, a call for us again to bear such kind of fruits.”   When the three of us shared our novitiate experience, we found out that our experience is almost the same, “ENCOUNTERING GOD WHO IS LOVE”. Though in different ways, we all have encountered a God who loves us and accepts us the way we are and whose love has sustained us since we were born up to today. Because of this, we felt that our profession would be a response to the love of God that he has offered…

To carve is to think with the heart and speak with the hands. I admit that it is an exercise resulting in a lot of sweat …   But this exercise shows how vital it is to go to the end of life just as the sculptor takes his time to go to the end and give life to his work. I was born in 1934 in Dordogne. In July 1956, I took my first steps in the congregation of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa. I was sent to Africa where I had different activities. Since I am retired, I can practice the art of sculpture. In my missionary life, I was able to fulfill several services, thanks to my self-taught training;it is surely a gift from heaven, the greatest gift. Thus I was able to respond to various calls in my religious family. In Algeria, I…
