Women with women – victims of human trafficking
After many years spent in Africa (Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Mozambique) Sr. Begoña Iñarra Spanish was sent for mission to Paris where she is working with Aux Captifs, la Libération, an organization helping women get out of prostitution. Sister is also a member of RENATE, Religious in Europe Networking Against Trafficking and Exploitation. A beautiful dream of a good job often becomes a nightmare All together, you have spent more than 20 years in Africa. When you see the growing number of Africans now trying to come to Europe, and when you see how many women end up as traffic victims, what do you think about this? Poor people have always left their countries in search of a better future. But the Africans who leave now are not the poorest. They must have some money to pay the traffickers who organize the migrations. They have to be able to borrow…
Final commitment of Sr. Gosia Popławska
On December 30, 2017 our sister Gosia Popławska pronounced her perpetual vows in our Congregation. The celebration took place in Gorzów Wielkopolski, her hometown in north-western Poland. United in the same family and the same mission: Together with our sisters, our brothers the Missionaries of Africa and the family and friends of Gosia, we witnessed this great event, not only for the parish but also for the diocese. To our surprise, the priest presented our congregation very well, citing the thoughts and writings of Mother Marie Salome (our first superior general) and Cardinal Lavigerie (our founder) as if he were part of our Lavigerie family! In his homily, Fr. Marcin Zaguła, Missionary of Africa, reminded us of the importance of our responsibility to the Mission and to the whole Church. Bishop Tadeusz Lityński invited Gosia to be the light of the Gospel wherever she would be sent. To share…
Missionary animation in Málaga, Spain
Share the Mission: In Malaga I am part of the Diocesan Missionary Council. It is linked to O.P.M. (Pontifical Mission Societies) and promotes several missionary animation campaigns throughout the year. The most important is the one of October on World Mission Sunday. Last October, the day began with a major exhibition called “El Domund al Descubierto” [The World Discovered]. It showed the missionary activity of the Church on the five continents. There was also information and formation provided by the missionaries with conferences, round tables, and testimonies … I shared my religious missionary experience in DR Congo radio. Forming young people for the Mission: An important activity that we organized as part of the mission delegation was the formation of a group of young people who wanted to be involved in the mission of Málaga Diocese in Venezuela. We gave them one formation day per month, using themes…

A storm at sea
On the 9th September 1869, eight young women from Brittany in the West of France, arrived in Algiers. This was one day later than foreseen due to a very bad storm while they were crossing the Mediterranean. And thus begins the history of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa! Msgr. Lavigerie, bishop of Algiers, had been waiting for them. Not seeing their arrival, from a high hill in the city he sent his blessing on the troubled sea and on the troubled beginnings of the future congregation. From the time of his arrival at the Episcopate in Algiers in 1866, cholera was raging in the country. There were many victims both from the famine and the illnesses that followed, leaving many orphans. To answer these needs Msgr. Lavigerie wanted to found a Congregation of sisters. But where to find religious missionary vocations? He sent to France Father…
