Solidarité à Delwende pendant le Covid-19

MSOLA community of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso)

Sr Vickness Nangongo Muleya,
MSOLA.

In Delwende (Ouagadougou) Sr Vickness Nangogo Muleya, director of the Delwende Center in Sakoula, asked to stay at the center during the pandemic, in order to accompany the rejected women accused of witchcraft and to ensure their protection against Covid-19.

The Delwende center welcomes mostly women, but there is also a few men who have been chased from their villages accused of witchcraft.

Sr Vickness shares her experience: « I saw their faces light up and at the same time they were surprised that I came to stay with them at this difficult time.

They were surprised to see me there the whole day and night but their faces were shining. In my heart it was like a dream and I was in awe of what was happening.

The first night I prayed in the hangar because my room was not ready.

The following day early in the morning, as a welcome sign, the court officials came to greet me and ask for my news. They were very grateful for my presence among them.

I set the limit and discipline for myself and for the women.

From time to time, after I have closed the office, I chat with them, or we sit doing crochet or
spinning the cotton. They like to joke with me.

Some of the women of Delwende Centre spinning cotton to get some pocket money.

I have celebrated Easter in solitude but also in hope with the women. They said to me: « My sister,
today we celebrate but we cannot celebrate because the world is sick, the world is in misery ». My presence among them has helped a lot with the measures put in place against Covid-19.

This time has been a time of grace and blessings in the risen Christ. The word of God encourages me a lot because God visits us when everything seems vague and meaningless. As with the disciples on the road to Emmaus, I am convinced that in all of this Christ walks with us! Let’s go with Christ, always faithful to Africa!
