On the 16th of December we gathered at the cathedral in Tunis to officially launch the 150 jubilee year celebration.
Many Missionaries of Africa and Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa accompanied by Bishop Ilario Antoniazzi of Tunis, Bishop John MacWilliam M.Afr of Laghouat in Algeria, Archbishop Paul Desfarges of Algiers, our friends and parishioners of the cathedral rejoiced and thanked the Lord for the 150 years of existence of our institutes.
The choir “Angles’ Voices” of the parish of St. Jeanne d’Arc in Tunis helped us so much to pray and celebrate.
The procession of offerings: We presented to the Lord our Constitutions and Capitular Acts, the Bible in different languages, the names of the Congregations founded and formed by us, the countries of Africa, the bread and wine.
Thanksgiving: “May my mouth sing your praise!”
The representatives of each entity or province received candles to continue to celebrate, renewing their attachment to Christ and our institutes in their mission countries.
In the afternoon, we attended a conference on the linguistic work of the White Fathers and White Sisters and a very beautiful pan-African concert of the “Angels’ Voices ” choir which made us dance. This part of the celebration took place in the Saint Louis Basilica which had been built by Cardinal Lavigerie. Today this place is a cultural center called the Acropolium of Carthage.
