In joy and thanksgiving
Consulted for the meaning of the word “jubilee,” the little Larousse tells us: “To express great joy”! Yes, but what joy? That of the kids playing ball in the yard? That of the girls who tell stories of their last judo lesson? or that of the lucky winner of the national lottery?… Well no, the joy we experienced in the community of Sceaux on Thursday, October 6, 2022, is on another level. That day, Sr. Agnès Nouyrigat and 4 members of her family; Sr. Rosemarie Bordes (who had already celebrated her jubilee on August 15 in the nursing home where she lives); Father Emmanuel Lengaigne (Provincial Superior of the Missionaries of Africa) and the entire community of Sceaux were gathered to celebrate the jubilee of Agnès (50 years) and Rosemarie (60 years). Following the closing of the 150-year jubilee in Uganda, another celebration took place in Rome on 25 January 2020. We gathered at the Generalate of the Missionaries of Africa to close this jubilee year also in Italy.

On December 8th in Namugongo, Uganda, the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) and the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa (White Sisters) coming from different countries, gathered to celebrate the closing of the 150 year Jubilee of of their foundation. The solemn Mass presided over by the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda gathered over 5,000 people who came to accompany the missionaries. The Missionaries of Africa arrived in Uganda one hundred and forty years ago (1879) while the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa one hundred and twenty years ago (1899). Our pilgrimage takes us to some places where our predecessors in mission passed, lived and served God and his people.

The jubilee year of 150 years of existence of the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) and the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa (White Sisters) was opened in December 2018 in Tunisia, Northern Africa where our institutes were founded. Celebrations ending this Jubilee will be in Uganda from 5th to 8th December 2019.

Symposium “Contribution of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa and the Missionaries of Africa to the Universal Mission of the Church”
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the foundation of our two religious families, the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa and the Missionaries of Africa, a symposium was organized in Rome on April 4 at Urbaniana University on the theme: “Contribution of our two Institutes to the Universal Mission of the Church”.
