Feast of Christ the King : a celebration of faith and commitment

As every year, Saint Joseph Parish in Nouakchott joyfully and prayerfully celebrated the Feast of Christ the King, a major event in the life of the Christian community. This solemn celebration, which marks the end of the liturgical year, reminds all the faithful that Christ is at the center of our lives and our mission. It also invites the community to look toward the future with confidence, placing our journey under the reign of love, peace, and justice of the Lord.

On the occasion of the Feast of Christ the King, each association, movement, national community, and prayer group of the parish was represented by two members. These representatives were called to make a formal commitment on behalf of their groups to the service of the Church and Saint Joseph Parish.

This symbolic yet deeply meaningful gesture expressed the desire of every group to actively contribute to parish life. The diversity of cultures and backgrounds, united in the same faith, reflects the richness of the Church in Nouakchott and its missionary vitality.

A public commitment in service of the Church

During the Eucharistic celebration, the presiding priest addressed a series of questions to each representative to confirm their commitment. He asked whether they were truly ready to serve the parish in the name of the communities they represented. With strong conviction, they all answered:

“Yes, we do.”

This solemn public dialogue between the priest and the faithful highlighted the seriousness of their promise and strengthened their awareness of the mission entrusted to them within the Church.

The Rosary as a sign of faith and fidelity

At the end of the ceremony, each participant received a rosary as a symbol of their commitment. This tangible sign serves as a reminder of the importance of daily prayer, which is a source of strength, fidelity, and perseverance in serving Christ and the Christian community. The rosary thus becomes a constant call to love, serve, and witness to the Gospel.

The Feast of Christ the King in Nouakchott was a simple yet deeply moving moment. The sincerity, dedication, and faith of these men and women ready to serve Christ and their community touched all those present.

This celebration provided an opportunity to renew unity, faith, and commitment within Saint Joseph Parish, which is called to remain a living place of encounter with Christ. Together, the community is invited to continue the journey of service, fraternity, and hope, so that the parish may keep growing in the joy of the Gospel.
