On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Institutes of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa and the Missionaries of Africa, in Rome, there was a conference on the life of Mother Marie Salomé, our first Superior General and our mother. Sister Gisela Schreyer spoke about Mother Marie Salomé’s vocation, her first ten years in the Congregation, her election as Superior General and the qualities that enabled her to face the challenges of 43 years at the head of the Congregation. Marie Salomé was a woman who was demanding of herself and of others, who believed in the place of the charism in the universal Church and who kept alive the missionary vision for Africa that made the charism of the Congregation flourish. We discover her as a woman apostle to women, faithful to the Founder and his spirit in the Congregation, a woman…

It is with hearts full of gratitude that we come to share what we have experienced since the beginning of our Juniorate. Marie Ange at school

“I called you by your name: you are mine” Isaiah 43:1 This is the Bible text that Marie Ange Ndayishimiye chose as the center and spirit of her perpetual vows. Her vocation as a Missionary Sister of Our Lady of Africa is rooted in this call of a personal God, a call by name. It was God who took the initiative and Marie Ange followed with a whole itinerary of Faith and Trust. The vocation that grows (Burundi). I witnessed her commitment as coordinator of Catholic movements. At that time, the Lord was already shaping in her a missionary heart that loves prayer and loves to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel. She came with us to the mission and vocation (MVA) activities that we did in our community on the 3rd Sunday of each month. The Lord continued to call her. Step by step, she discovered our Charism…

First Yolande

“This is the day that the Lord has made, let it be for us a day of feast and joy.” Ps 117, 24 The dream come true The 30/04/2018, was an unforgettable day in my life in which the Lord filled me with his joy and inner peace. I was very happy to move towards the altar with the processional hymn that spoke to me so much: “Naja kwako Bwana, unipo keem tumishi wako” which translates: “I come to you Lord, receive me, your servant”. I said to myself, the dream nourished for years is realized today, the offering of all my being to God in the service of my brothers and sisters. I was delighted to pronounce my vows for the first time in complete freedom and confidence; by pronouncing them a strength and inner assurance inhabited me.   Welcome into a new family What has also given…

Gosia profession

On December 30, 2017 our sister Gosia Popławska pronounced her perpetual vows in our Congregation.   The celebration took place in Gorzów Wielkopolski, her hometown in north-western Poland. United in the same family and the same mission: Together with our sisters, our brothers the Missionaries of Africa and the family and friends of Gosia, we witnessed this great event, not only for the parish but also for the diocese. To our surprise, the priest presented our congregation very well, citing the thoughts and writings of Mother Marie Salome (our first superior general) and Cardinal Lavigerie (our founder) as if he were part of our Lavigerie family! In his homily, Fr. Marcin Zaguła, Missionary of Africa, reminded us of the importance of our responsibility to the Mission and to the whole Church. Bishop Tadeusz Lityński invited Gosia to be the light of the Gospel wherever she would be sent. To share…
