On the occasion of the 150 years since our foundation, a special walking route and a guide have been prepared in the Netherlands to help discover the heritage of our two Institutes: the Missionaries of Africa and the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa.
Walking is very popular in the Netherlands, especially routes with some historical background information. Because of the 150th Jubilee, we invited the Paadjesmakers (Pathmakers) to prepare a “White Sisters and White Fathers” walking route. These are 3 volunteers who make booklets with walking routes about historical points in and around the city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch (Duketown).
As a result of our collaboration, a little walking-booklet was printed where we can find the description of the route as well as background information about the White Sisters and White Fathers and also other former houses from other missionary-congregations in the area; Boxtel-Esch-Vught are mentioned. The whole route is 17.5 km long from the train station in Boxtel to the train station in Vught. It passes through places where our sisters and fathers used to live and work, for example the old house Sancta Monica in Esch which is still there, the old house St. Charles belonging to the White Fathers where the highway passes now, near our old Provincial House and Regional House, and the old Procure of the Fathers. Also the route passes the Worldhouse, where our sisters are now living.{gallery}150ans/Netherlands{/gallery}
The White Sisters-White Fathers route is the 16th booklet published by the Pathmakers. It iss available at bookstores, tourist info points in the region or can be ordered through www.depaadjesmakers.nl or info@wittezusters.nl for 2 Euros.
