Jubilee Closing Celebration in Uganda
On December 8th in Namugongo, Uganda, the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) and the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa (White Sisters) coming from different countries, gathered to celebrate the closing of the 150 year Jubilee of of their foundation. The solemn Mass presided over by the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda gathered over 5,000 people who came to accompany the missionaries. DAY 1 Pilgrimage in the footsteps of the pioneer missionaries
The Missionaries of Africa arrived in Uganda one hundred and forty years ago (1879) while the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa one hundred and twenty years ago (1899). Our pilgrimage takes us to some places where our predecessors in mission passed, lived and served God and his people.
Jubilee closing celebrations in Uganda
The jubilee year of 150 years of existence of the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) and the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa (White Sisters) was opened in December 2018 in Tunisia, Northern Africa where our institutes were founded. Celebrations ending this Jubilee will be in Uganda from 5th to 8th December 2019. Four days’ activities have been planned including a pilgrimage in the footsteps of the pioneer missionaries that the members of the two institutes will make. The first day we will visit Kiggungu, Kisubi, Nalukolongo and Lubaga and conclude the day with the Eucharist at Lubaga Cathedral. On the 6th of December, we will go for a pilgrimage to Masaka (Bukalasa, Katigondo, Villa-Maria and Bwanda). The third day of the pilgrimage we will go to Munyonyo Uganda Martyrs’ Shrine and Mapeera – Nabulagala the cradle and ancestral home of the Catholic church…
